We believe in contributing to our community and helping where we can. That’s why we’ve chosen to help Pathways.
Offering shelter and care to severely disabled children, Pathways is a multi-racial, multi-cultural centre located in Westville. Started in 1995, they currently accommodate 46 individuals, ranging from 5 to 29 years old. They attend the centre daily where education interventions, specific to their individual needs, are carried out by fully trained staff and therapists. This is combined with their Home programme, an outreach initiative aimed at children who are unable to attend the centre.
The aim? To help children with barriers to learning and social interaction to achieve a greater quality of life.
The challenge
Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy are a regular part of each child’s Individual Education Programme and are included in the school fee of R2 200 per month. Pathways is not government funded and one third of the families are unable to meet the full fee amount. The actual cost for intervention per child is R3 000 per month hence the need for continued fundraising to meet these costs. Answering this need, Dezzo has stepped in to sponsor 4 children on a monthly basis. We have also recently donated two trampolines ot the centre – a big hit with the children!
Take up the challenge
We would like to appeal to our fellow business owners to consider contributing to this worthy cause – organisations like Pathways rely on private fund raising activities to keep the doors open and make a real difference to the lives of the most vulnerable members of our society.
